So today I got back from working in Pass Christian, MS. It was quite the experience, after seeing the landfall devastation down there anything up here in Charlotte I considered ugly before now looks beautiful. There were multiple houses that were just collapsed and near a house we were working on there was the top to some house laying in the pond, near a highway there was the top to another house laying upside down and leaning on a power pole.

Our sleeping conditions were decent, it was pretty much like camping. Instead of staying in the highly crowded tents or sleeping on mattresses strewn across the floor in a cleared out library that campus crusade acquisitioned we found our own tent and set it up and fit 7 people in it semi-comfortably. I slept well for sleeping on a cot, and by well I mean I only woke up about 2 or 3 times a night. It wasn’t too hard to get up in the morning though.

The first day there we worked where they were going to be sleeping a bunch of people next week in tents. I helped nail together plywood and mess and carry it all over the place. The next 3 days my group and me spent working on some plywood in a guys house that unlike most of the other houses around it was lucky enough to have a frame left.

Overall it was a fun week, the food wasn’t bad either, better that some campus food. The drive back was grueling, and I didn’t even drive. We left at dinner Thursday night instead of trying to wake up at 4:30 am just to get back at a decent time. I feel sorry for the drivers; I’ve been through similar experiences, not fun.

After being down there all the buildings and things around here I found to be sub-par look magnificent. I got back to a nice clean apartment, by roommate Bub and our friend Justin went to town and cleaned the smorgasbord of filth that had encompassed our living quarters, so now my room has gone from the ultimate cleanest room in the place, to second dirtiest to one of my slovenly roommates who is half responsible for the mess in our living room in the first place. We’re placing bets on when he’ll mess it up again. He’s a great guy, just not a very clean guy. Did I mention he ate all my pizzas?

Well, it’s time to once again relax and take a load off (“Fanny”). Goodnight and good luck.
